Here now how it all starts ... translated in english... hope you enjoy :)

The turntable arrived in a horrible condition. The engine is missing, the tone arm has been brutally ripped off and the on/off switch is broken too.

A real pity but at least unexpensive ;)

The turntable plattern in its former condition: the painting was scratched off on wide areas and looked ridiculos anyway.

There had to be something done!.

Removing the old paint with a wire brush and an electric drill.

This looks way better now ;)

Meanwhile i got the the engine unit to work perfectly. I also removed the broken tone arm to have space for a new one, I expected to arrive soon.

A cleaned and repaired tone arm base.

The small hole has been drilled to mount a reverse function switch. It was noobishly added to the turntable. This "extra feature" caused malfunction of the device while in a club perfomance! :)

Everything is ready to give the plattern a new glance!

Uhhhhm... Ugly!

Adding new color

While the paint is drying the new task is to "remove" the hole

Mixing up the putty mass...

fill up and close the hole...

abrase ...

polish... Finished! This looks quite better.

You can see the white painted plattern already which had to dry properly before i could proceed working on it.

Started working!

Wet sanding off....kinda disgusting work!

Succeeding in renewing the plattern's look!

Wolla! A "disguting car wreck became a mercedes benz!" (Xzibit)

This is already something! :)

Catch a last look at the ripped off tone arm unit!

The new on/off switch has arrived!

The 33/45rpm knobs have already been equipped with the new LEDs

Yeah dude, that's the way it gotta look!

You may slightly guess what's it gonna be at the end ;)

At night...

still at night baby...

Next task: the magic sub-plattern illumination!

Drawing marks professionaly with an edding, a ruler and the remaining pieces of a geometry triangle :o) - however - it worked great!

Setting the LED's

Ready for wiring

Wired

Somehow the effect was'nt as fresh as expected.

So it had to be enhanced later

...

And God said: "Let there be light!"

And there was light!

...

...

...

This is a new important device, i bought for a good price (48 euros) at eBay. It's a complete 1210 chassis, including full functionally electronics.

In order to improve the look of the sub-plattern illumination i made it completely new. This time i placed 36(!) instead of 16 LEDs under the turntable plattern. Dude, this is gonna rock :)

Unfortunately the transformer of the new technics series could'nt get along with so many LEDs. Though all LEDs "only" need 2.4 Watts it is 2.4 Watts too much for the transformer. The LEDs began flickering as the TT started, To solve the problem, i replaced the newer trafo with the trafo of a 1.st series technics.

Transformer of the newer technics model.

t works! And looks way better than before!

Yeah! :)

Engraved by an engravor :)

My little boy got to have a name when he's finished ;)

Taking the cutting wheel and here we go...

What a poor turntable :(...

Roughly cut out

Conditioning the egdes

Looks quite good, does'nt it?

The two "patients"

The new tone arms finally arrived!

Yet the tone arm has'nt been fixed on its base

Resoldered the cables and contacts. The previous soldering contacs were not of enough quality.

Mounted tone arm and plus the perfect wiring

Finished, but i expect the missing tone arm stand to arrive soon...

Slowly it becomes a turntable again! :)

This chassis has been recently painted at a paint shop for cars.

...

...

Old vs. New

Complete electronics including the tone arm.

The first parts are being installed...

It's working ... HOORRAAAAYY !! :D

The illuminated sign is still missing...

...

fitting in...

Installing the illumination...

...wiring

comparing with the LEDs switched off...

We get closer to the end...

The chassis without the insides

had to be modified because the sign stuff did'nt fit into it.

Cutting off a bit...

Fits!

chic ;)

Hi,

I have seen this posted on a fair few forums now. How long did the whole process take you?

Unfortunately I don't have the guts to strip my decks, nor the time - but what you have done really looks great. Big up.

thanks :)

Hm ... the whole project took me nearly half a year ... but in workinghours maybe ~50-70 Hours. The whole deck was a real wreck as it arrieved so much more work had to be done than "just modding".

Hi kaype!

I also do some refurbishing and modification. But I got really inspired and amazed with this...

I would like to ask you if where you connected the LEDs on the PCB to power the lights in these pictures you posted. A quick reply would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks!

By the way, nice job on the decks especially the mods! Good work!

Ojj mate!
You have done a really good job here. I tried to mess with the turntable base and it ends with disaster. I cant find out how to arrange it back together. I have some exploded pictures from technics, but it is not enough. Have you got some further information about tonearm base? Please help.
Thanks
