Prolly the easiest way to look at it is in a 6 step process...
1. GET ALL THE BLACK OFF THE PLATTER - Use a VERY SOFT metal wire brush... one that connects to the end of a drill... Grind ALL of the black finish off of the side of the platter and wipe it down to get the dust off of it.... The platter should be all silver now...
2. TAPING - Tape up all of the rubber top and portions of the bottom edge of the platter with painters tape. (Getting paint off of the black rubber is damn near impossible..) and doing some diligent work taping the silver you don't want to be painted will obviously save you some time...
3. PRIMING - Depending on the paint you use, this can make or break how kick ass your platter will end up looking... If you're using normal spray/ model paint, using a primer is recommended for sure. (Powder coating it can have some different requirements.) Just keep in mind that you'll want the primer to be a lighter color than the target/ finished color. Apply your primer in an even coat and give it about 5-6 hours to cure
4- WAITING - I just threw this in cause i KNOW THAT WE ALL GET HYPED! But the more you wait for your primer and your paint to dry, the better the results when you're sanding off the excess.... so just chill..
5- PAINTING - OK, you're ready to go.... Apply an EVEN coat... Let 'er dry for at least 6 hours before applying another EVEN coat. After you apply you last coat, let the paint cure for at LEAST 16-20 hours before you take it over to the sink... (can vary due to paint, temp and humidity)
6- SANDING - Take your tape off GENTLY, get the painted platter over to the sink, and get a piece of at LEAST 240+ grit sandpaper (As recommended by my homey that does powder coating) Get that sandpaper moist, and slowly, surely, and EVENLY, sand the side of the platter. After sanding that sucker down with about 2 pieces of sandpaper the silver dots should show up. Repeat the process until the silver dots show up on your newly colored field. Using a block is a good idea, and no matter what, keep it even and apply even pressure...
Paint choice is important, but a lot of what paint you choose loses it's importance if AND ONLY IF you're patient with it drying... WAIT FOR THAT SHIT TO CURE COMPLETELY... Other than that... enjoi

Hi there,
i simply removed the paint with a steelbrush, repainted it and used little log of wood with sandingpaper to sand of only the paint from the dots. After that i polished everything. finished 
sounds easy but it takes a lot of time
For the LED Mod you'll need an adittional transformer...

Hi there guys,
Could you please let me know how you got the platter painted? like what kind of paint did you use? and how did you get the dots clean without damaging the background( you had to remove the paint from the dots but not the background, how?). and can you give more details on the LED system? I have 2 sl-1210 that I want to customize but i don't know how, thank you
